Kodaikanal
Kodaikanal, also known as Kodai, is a
beautiful hill station at an altitude of about 2,133 m high on the southern
ridge of Palani hills in Western Ghats. Kodaikanal, the name itself means
'gift of the forest' in Tamil. The thick lush greenary that surrounds the
place completely adds to the beauty. There is scenic grandeur and many
alluring locales including the spectacular Pillar Rocks, the serene Coaker's
Walk and many magnificent waterfalls. The pleasant climate makes the place
accessible all round the year and reasonable rates as well as the
multi-cuisine food available does lure tourists.

Kodaikanal, is a favourite camping site for trekkers.
The Kurinji Andavar Temple: This temple is 3.2 km away from town, and is dedicated to Lord Subramanya.
» Flora & Fauna Museum: East of the town centre, about 3 kms south down Law's Ghat Road, is the Flora and Fauna Museum (daily except Sun 10-11.30 am & 3.30-5 pm). It has a collection of stuffed animals.
» Other Places: There are many places in Kodai that have become an attraction among tourists like Pillar Rocks, Coaker's Walk, Dolphin's Nose, Orchid House & Silver cascade Falls and many others.

The Cottage Crafts shop in the Main Street has some very good stuff for sale. It is run by Corsock, The Coordinating Council for Social concerns in Kodai. This organisation is staffed by volunteers who sell crafts on behalf of development groups, using commission charged to help the needy.
